Leadership Changes Further Strengthen Agency’s Emphasis
on MADISON – Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) Secretary Rick Raemisch today announced three leadership changes to further strengthen the agency’s efforts to promote successful offender reentry from the point of incarceration through supervision in the community. “These changes will enhance cooperation between our adult prison and community corrections systems, further strengthening our agency’s work to implement the various criminal justice and corrections reforms in the 2009-11 biennium,” Secretary Raemisch said. “The successful reentry of offenders in the community means reduced recidivism and, ultimately, improved community safety.” Among changes, which take effect January 31, 2010: Denise Symdon, currently Assistant Administrator of the Division of Adult Institutions (DAI), will take the helm of the Division of Community Corrections (DCC) as Administrator. Quala Champagne, who oversaw Racine Correctional Institution as Warden prior to her appointment as DCC Administrator in 2005, will return to DAI as Warden of the Wisconsin Correctional Center System (WCCS). Current WCCS Warden Mickey McCash will move to the post of Regional Chief of DCC Region 6, succeeding former Regional Chief Bob Grusnick, who has retired from state service. The leadership changes follow a series of leadership changes in the DOC’s adult prison system in December 2009 that, taken together, will further complement the Department’s work to implement various criminal justice and corrections reforms, thereby fulfilling its mission of working to keep Wisconsin safe. “We are charting new courses in the Department of Corrections, and I know we will benefit greatly from the perspectives each of these leaders are bringing to their new roles,” Secretary Raemisch said. ### 01/28/2010 |
