DOC Secretary appoints Susan Crawford
Executive Assistant
MADISON
– Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) Secretary Matt Frank today
announced Susan Crawford of Madison will be the new Executive Assistant
for the agency. Crawford, who has served as Executive Assistant at the
Office of State Employment Relations (OSER), begins her new role July 17.
“I am extremely
pleased that Susan Crawford will be joining the DOC’s executive leadership
team,” Secretary Frank said. “Her management experience in state agencies,
coupled with her diverse and accomplished background in criminal justice,
will make her a great asset to the agency. We welcome her enthusiasm and
her experience in the criminal justice system.”
Crawford is currently
the Executive Assistant at OSER and previously was the deputy secretary of
the Department of Employment Relations, where she has worked since 2003.
Crawford was an assistant attorney general at the Wisconsin Department of
Justice (DOJ) from 1997 to 2003, where she handled criminal appeals and
prosecuted Medicaid fraud cases. She served as the director of the
criminal appeals unit at DOJ from 2000 to 2003, and oversaw felony appeals
in both state and federal court representing the state.
Crawford earned her
law degree with high honors from the University of Iowa College of Law in
1994, her master’s degree in English literature from Indiana University in
1989 and her bachelor’s degree, cum laude, in English from Lawrence
University in 1987.
As Executive
Assistant for the DOC, Crawford will oversee key activities within the
agency and will be a top adviser to Secretary Matt Frank and Governor Jim
Doyle on legislative and policy matters. Crawford will replace Jessica
Clark Justman, who is leaving the DOC July 5 to become a Senior Policy
Adviser in Governor Jim Doyle’s Office.
