Short Term Re-entry Program for Juvenile Males
- Ethan Allen School
Kyle Davidson, Superintendent; Rita Maciona, Program Supervisor
Ethan Allen School is now accepting direct commitments from counties to a short-term program designed to provide intensive cognitive restructuring. Youth may be directed to this maximum 120-day placement through a court order for correctional placement with a judicial recommendation for the short term program. Highly motivated youth, capable of changing behavior in a limited time, will also find support through the re-entry planning that begins on the first day of reception. County and state staff work with the youth's family to develop collaborations with agencies that will help to meet the youth's needs upon return to the community. Two months of aftercare, provided by either the county or DJC depending on normal agreements, assure that supports are maintained. Features of the program include: educational programming, lifework education and HSED work; Juvenile Cognitive Intervention Program Phases 1 & 2 and a new family component called "Families Count"; Anger Management; Family Therapy if warranted; and daily Fitness Activities. Youth on direct commitments who fail to participate adequately will be placed in the general EAS population and returned to the court for a future placement decision.
