DOC Staff and Inmates Assisting with Response to
Flooding and Storms
in Eight Wisconsin Communities
Supervised Inmate Workers Sandbagging Dams,
Assisting in Cleanup Efforts
MADISON – Department of Corrections (DOC) staff and supervised
minimum-security inmates have been deployed to eight Wisconsin
communities to assist in sandbagging dams and cleanup as part of
Wisconsin Emergency Management’s coordinated response to the widespread
flooding and severe storms throughout the state.
More than 120 minimum-security supervised inmate workers have been
deployed to the communities of: Baraboo, Columbus, Soldiers Grove, Gays
Mills, Monona, Fall River, Hustisford and Fond du Lac. The DOC crews are
working alongside other agencies and organizations under the Wisconsin
Emergency Management umbrella.
Governor Doyle has declared a state of emergency for 30 counties due to
severe storms and flooding.
The counties include: Adams, Calumet, Columbia, Crawford, Dane, Dodge,
Fond du Lac, Grant, Green, Green Lake, Iowa, Jefferson, Juneau, Kenosha,
Lafayette, LaCrosse, Marquette, Milwaukee, Monroe, Ozaukee, Racine,
Richland, Rock, Sauk, Sheboygan, Vernon, Walworth, Washington, Waukesha,
and Winnebago Counties.
The State Emergency Operations Center remains activated.
