Numerous sites oversee community service projects, local
collections MADISON – Numerous Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) correctional facilities and other work sites are commemorating the holiday season with employee collections and supervised inmate projects, all to give back to local communities. The efforts reflect one more way in which the DOC system works to strengthen local communities not just during the holiday season, but throughout the year. A partial list of seasonal efforts taking place in DOC facilities include: Chippewa Valley Correctional Treatment Facility: Employee collections of food items, for donation to local food pantries; employee donations of gifts for the elderly and veterans; collections of winter clothing and blankets for donation to an area agency. Additionally, inmates helped with holiday lighting duties for a Chippewa Falls park display and for the community of Cornell; have assisted in the preparation and serving of meals to homeless individuals through local organizations; and assisted in handling donated food items collected by a local post office for area food pantries. Columbia Correctional Institution: Staff-organized coat drive for a local Salvation Army. Dodge Correctional Institution: Staff donations of unwrapped, new toys for a local toy bank, and food donations for a local community service agency. Waupun Correctional Institution: Inmate cheese and sausage
fund raiser with proceeds to benefit a local food pantry and
community service agency. Employees also have participated in local
Shop with A Cop programs. Inmate-made wooden toys from the Building

1,200 crocheted items including hats, mittens, afghans, baby
blankets, stockings and ornaments from the Community Service Program
were donated to local shelters and food pantries. Division of Juvenile Corrections sites are showing the giving spirit as well.
