Secretary Frank Appoints Ron Kalmus to Lead Community Corrections
in Central, Southwest Wisconsin

Assistant Regional Chief Promoted to Oversee Community Corrections Region Spanning 17 Counties

MADISON – Department of Corrections (DOC) Secretary Matt Frank announced today that he has appointed Ron Kalmus as the new Chief to oversee the Division of Community Corrections (DCC) Region 8. The region supervises offenders on probation, parole and extended supervision in 17 counties, from Wood and Portage in central Wisconsin west to La Crosse and south to Grant and Lafayette counties.

“Ron Kalmus has close to a quarter-century of corrections experience, and his extensive and diverse background will further enhance the Department’s efforts to advance public safety by holding offenders accountable in the community and motivating them to succeed as law abiding citizens who do not re-offend,” Secretary Frank said. “Ron Kalmus’ record of leadership in the region has helped the Department build and strengthen ties with local law enforcement agencies, community providers and other stakeholders.”

Kalmus began his career in corrections as a correctional officer in 1983. He moved up the officer ranks the following year and was named Assistant Superintendent of Oregon Correctional Center (OCC) in 1986. Kalmus advanced to the role of Superintendent of OCC in 1989, and then was promoted to Sector Chief in the former Division of Intensive Sanctions in 1992. In addition to prior experience in three DCC regions, including Region 8, Kalmus also has led the Division as Assistant Administrator. He moves into his new role from Assistant Regional Chief in Region 8.

Kalmus replaces former Regional Chief Barbara Sutton, who has retired. His new appointment took effect April 1.
