Day Report Center for Male Offenders
Opens in Milwaukee
New Program Emphasizes Structure to Hold Offenders
Accountable
to Rules of Community Supervision
MILWAUKEE – Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) Secretary Matt
Frank today officially commemorated the opening of the agency’s new Day
Report Center for Male Offenders in Milwaukee. The Day Report Center (DRC)
is being operated under a contract with Attic Correctional Services in
collaboration with Genesis Behavioral Services.
"This new Day Report Center reflects Governor Doyle's strong commitment
to expanding the options that our probation and parole agents have to hold
offenders accountable in the community, while providing offenders with the
opportunity to succeed as law-abiding citizens who do not commit new
crimes," Secretary Frank said. "The new center reflects the Governor's
commitment to a stronger, safer, growing Milwaukee, and the Department of
Corrections is pleased to play an important role in moving the Governor's
vision for Milwaukee forward."
The new DRC is the second center of its kind opening in Milwaukee this
year, thanks to funding provided in Governor Doyle's 2005-07 budget. The
Department opened a DRC for women offenders in February 2007
under an agreement with the Benedict Center. In addition, the DOC
has opened DRCs in Kenosha and Beloit during the current budget cycle.
At the Milwaukee DRC for male offenders, Attic Correctional Services
and Genesis Behavioral Services will provide programming for 25-30 at any
given time, reaching 125 offenders per year. The Department will refer
offenders to the center, which provides additional oversight beyond the
regular, individual supervision offenders already receive from probation
and parole agents. The center is being operated through a $159,500
contract between the DOC and both Attic Correctional Services and Genesis
Behavioral Services.
Programming at the Milwaukee facility is designed to assist
participants who want to change the behaviors that led them to criminal
activity in the past, thus promoting success at leading law-abiding lives.
In addition to AODA and victim empathy programming, the Milwaukee DRC will
emphasize employment preparation and placement, family issues, parenting
and personal relationships.
The DRC for Male Offenders, which opened in March 2007, is located in
the Century Building, 230 W. Wells St., Milwaukee.
