Corrections Secretary Raemisch Appoints New Assistant
Administrator for Division of Adult Institutions
Current Warden of the Racine Youthful Offender
Correctional Facility
brings 20 years of DOC experience to new role
MADISON – Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) Secretary
Rick Raemisch today announced the appointment of Floyd Mitchell as
the new Assistant Administrator of the agency’s Division of
Adult Institutions (DAI).
“Floyd has an impressive track record of public service in
our correctional system, and his experience in corrections
management, security, treatment, reentry planning and other areas
will be an asset to the DAI administration,” Secretary Raemisch
said. “He has demonstrated strong leadership qualities and
commitment to public safety. I am pleased that he is joining our
executive team.”
Mitchell began his corrections career in 1990 as a Youth
Counselor at Ethan Allen School, promoting to Supervising Youth
Counselor in 1994. In 2001, he transferred to the Milwaukee Secure
Detention Facility (MSDF) as a Supervising Officer 2. While at
MSDF, he advanced through the ranks of Intake Captain, First Shift
Commander, Administrative Captain, and Security Director. In
2006, before being appointed in his current position as the Warden
of Racine Youthful Offender Correctional Facility, he was the
Superintendent of the Felmers O. Chaney Correctional Center in
Milwaukee.
Mitchell will assist DAI Administrator William Grosshans in
overseeing a Division with a workforce of almost 7,500 employees
that safely and securely supervises over 22,000 inmates located in
36 correctional facilities across Wisconsin. His appointment takes
effect February 28, 2010.
