MADISON
– Department of Corrections (DOC) Secretary Rick Raemisch today
announced the appointment of Ismael Ozanne as the agency’s new
Deputy Secretary. Ozanne currently is the agency’s Executive
Assistant, a position he has held since February 2008.
“Ismael
Ozanne is a proven leader in corrections and criminal justice, and I
am pleased to name him to the Deputy Secretary post,” Secretary
Raemisch said. “In his time with the Department of Corrections, he
has done tremendous work to help this agency be successful in its
mission of working to keep Wisconsin safe.”
Ozanne
has been the agency’s Executive Assistant since February 2008. In
this role, Ozanne has overseen key initiatives within the agency,
including efforts to advance the agency’s reentry initiative and
partner with the Justice Reinvestment Initiative on smart,
cost-effective reforms to criminal justice and corrections. He is a
top adviser to Secretary Raemisch and Governor Jim Doyle on
legislative and policy matters.
Prior to
his appointment, Ozanne was an Assistant District Attorney with the
Dane County District Attorney’s Office since 1998. Ozanne earned his
law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1998 and
his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of
Wisconsin-Madison in 1994.
Ozanne
succeeds outgoing Deputy Secretary Amy Smith, whom Governor Doyle
recently appointed to the Dane County Circuit Court. The transition
will occur over the next several weeks.
