Secretary Raemisch Appoints New Superintendent of
Winnebago Correctional Center
Susan Ross brings two decades of corrections experience to position
MADISON – Department of Corrections (DOC) Secretary Rick Raemisch
today announced that Susan A. Ross has been named Superintendent of the
Winnebago Correctional Center (WCC) in Winnebago.
“For more than two decades, Susan Ross has worked to keep Wisconsin
safe. She has demonstrated a deep commitment to holding offenders
accountable both in the community and in our prison system,” Secretary
Raemisch said. “She has extensive experience in Community Corrections,
as well as more than three years overseeing a facility that prepares
women inmates for their successful return to the community.”
Susan will move to WCC from the John C. Burke Correctional Center (JBCC)
in Waupun, where she has been Superintendent since 2005. Susan began her
state corrections career in 1987 and was promoted to a Corrections Field
Supervisor/ Purchase of Service Coordinator in 1993 in Oshkosh. In May
of 2005 Susan was promoted to Superintendent of the John C. Burke
Correctional Center in Waupun.
Susan has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She is currently serving on the DOC
Division of Adult Institutions Policy Committee, the DOC Administrative
Rules Committee and is Co-Chair of the Employee Services Local
Committee. She has also served as the Division of Community Corrections
(DCC) Operations Manual Committee Chair, DCC Time Study Project Manager,
Co- Chair of the DCC New Supervisors Training and DCC Conditional
Release Regional Representative. She has been a member of the DOC
Alternative to Revocation Workgroup, DOC AODA Cross Divisional Team, DCC
Agency Selection Workgroup and the DCC Audits Committee. Susan was also
a graduate of the Department’s 1999 Leadership Development Program.
WCC is located in Winnebago in Winnebago County and has a current
capacity for 270 adult males. It is a minimum-security facility.
Susan succeeds former Superintendent James Nagle, who recently
retired from the DOC. Her appointment is effective Nov. 23. A search
will begin soon for a new JBCC Superintendent.
