Winners of Valor and Life Saving Awards Also
Recognized During Correctional Employees Week
MADISON – Department of Corrections (DOC) Secretary Rick Raemisch today
formally recognized the winners of the 2009 Secretary’s SALUTE Award
program, which pays tribute to the tremendous work of DOC employees.
“I am honored to join Governor Doyle in recognizing the talents,
dedication and professionalism of all DOC employees during this special
week,” Secretary Raemisch said. “Although the Secretary’s SALUTE Awards
program recognizes exemplary performance in six main areas, our
workforce demonstrates many additional honorable qualities and abilities
that, collectively, rank the Wisconsin Department of Corrections among
the finest agencies of its kind in the nation.”
Now in its third year, the Secretary’s SALUTE Awards provide employees
the opportunity to nominate their peers for an award recognizing
Service, Awareness, Leadership, Uniqueness, Teamwork or Excellence
(SALUTE). From these nominations, a review committee then makes final
selections, which are forwarded to the Secretary. Winners of the 2009
awards were recognized during a ceremony today, in concert with
Correctional Employees Week in Wisconsin as proclaimed by Governor
Doyle.
The 2009 Secretary’s SALUTE Award winners are:
SERVICE: Pamela Zank, Supervising Officer 1, Kettle Moraine Correctional
Institution.
AWARENESS: Velvet Moore, Correctional Sergeant, Felmers O. Chaney
Correctional Center.
LEADERSHIP: David Picard, Education Director, Kettle Moraine
Correctional Institution.
UNIQUENESS: Jamie Wertel, Medical Program Assistant Associate, Green Bay
Correctional Institution.
TEAM: Dodge Correctional Institution Hospice Team, comprised of Hospice
Coordinator Margie Barnes, Medical Social Worker; Hospice Volunteer
Coordinator Sheri Darnick, Medical Program Assistant; Program Director
Brooks Feldmann; Infirmary Managers James Hebel, Nursing Supervisor, and
Fred Goetsch, Unit Manager; Chaplain Paul Rogers; Hospice Nurse Cherie
Nelson; Attending Physician Dr. Barbara Bell; Psychologist Dr. Lynn
Stock; and Security staff, including Designated Security Officer Dawn
Heeringa and Security Liaison Lt. Peter Jaeger.
EXCELLENCE: Perry Krebs, Correctional Officer, and Dave Jesko,
Industries Specialist, Fox Lake Correctional Institution.
During the ceremony, Secretary Raemisch also presented staff with Life
Saving and Valor Awards, which recognize staff who have acted in
extraordinary situations to save a life or who have shown uncommon
valor.
