Templeton brings extensive legislative and policy development experience
to new role

MADISON – Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) Secretary Rick Raemisch today announced Carrie Templeton will be the agency’s new Executive Assistant, effective Monday, Aug. 10.

“Carrie Templeton brings 12 years of legislative and state agency leadership experience to the Department of Corrections, and she will be an asset to our management team,” Secretary Raemsich said. “Her strong background in policy development and external relations will be critical as we move ahead with smart, cost-effective criminal justice and corrections reforms that reduce recidivism and fulfill our agency’s mission of working to keep Wisconsin safe.”

Templeton is currently the Executive Assistant for the state Department of Revenue, a position she has held since June 2007. Prior to that, she was Executive Assistant at the Department of Financial Institutions starting in September 2005. In these roles, Templeton has overseen policy development and external relations, and has served as a liaison to the Office of Governor Jim Doyle.

In addition, Templeton has eight years of state legislative experience, including positions as Policy Director and Chief of Staff for a former Senate leader.

Templeton earned her Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Policy Analysis from the Robert M. La Follette Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, History and International Relations from UW-Madison.

As Executive Assistant for the DOC, Templeton will oversee key activities within the agency and will be a top adviser to Secretary Raemisch, Deputy Secretary Ismael Ozanne and Governor Doyle on legislative and policy matters.
