Corrections Secretary Raemisch Appoints New Assistant Administrator for Community Corrections Division

Sharon Williams Currently Leads Community Corrections Region
Serving Milwaukee County

MADISON - Department of Corrections (DOC) Secretary Rick Raemisch today announced the appointment of Sharon Williams to be the new Assistant Administrator of the agency’s Division of Community Corrections (DCC).

“As the Chief of our DCC Region serving Milwaukee County, Sharon Williams has been instrumental in ensuring our community supervision resources are maximized and that safety is protected in the Milwaukee community,” Secretary Raemisch said. “In addition, her three decades of state service will be a tremendous asset to the Department as we pursue reforms that strengthen community supervision, improve prisoner reentry and reduce recidivism.”

Williams began her career working with the Wisconsin Department of Health and Social Services as a Juvenile Specialist in 1979. In 1980, she began her career in adult corrections as a Milwaukee probation and parole agent, and in 1999 promoted to Corrections Field Supervisor. In 2000, she joined the Wisconsin Parole Commission as a Parole Commissioner. In 2006, Williams was named Superintendent of the Marshall E. Sherrer Correctional Center (MESCC), one of three minimum-security correctional centers in Milwaukee that house offenders during their last months of incarceration before they are returned to the community. She was named Chief of the DCC Region serving Milwaukee County in 2007. Williams also brings to the role skills in professional ethics, mental health, case management, human resources, interviewing and counseling techniques.

She is a United Way board member and is involved with both the American and Wisconsin Correctional Associations. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Williams succeeds former DCC Administrator William J. Grosshans, who was appointed Administrator of the Division of Adult Institutions in January 2009. In her new role, Williams will assist DCC Administrator Quala Champagne in overseeing a Division with a workforce of 1,880 employees that safely and securely manages approximately 70,000 offenders in communities across Wisconsin. Her appointment takes effect May 24.
