Current facility Superintendent brings 28 years of experience, strong local ties to new position MADISON – Department of Corrections (DOC) Secretary Rick Raemisch announced today that he has appointed Sharon D. Williams as the new Chief to oversee Region 3 of the Division of Community Corrections (DCC). The region includes more than 18,000 offenders under community supervision in Milwaukee County. “Sharon Williams has more than 28 years of state experience, including two decades as a Probation and Parole Agent and Field Supervisor, as well as more than a half-decade with the Parole Commission,” Secretary Raemisch said. “She brings to the position great leadership skills, a deep commitment to public safety in Milwaukee, and strong partnerships with law enforcement agencies, service providers and other stakeholders in the Milwaukee community.” Williams began her career working with the Wisconsin Department of Health and Social Services as a Juvenile Specialist in 1979. In 1980, she began her career in adult corrections as a Milwaukee probation and parole agent, and in 1999 promoted to Corrections Field Supervisor. In 2000, she joined the Wisconsin Parole Commission as a Parole Commissioner. In 2006, Williams was named Superintendent of the Marshall E. Sherrer Correctional Center (MESCC), one of three minimum-security correctional centers in Milwaukee that house offenders during their last months of incarceration before they are returned to the community. In addition, she also brings a diverse professional background that encompasses mental health, case management, human resources and counseling. She is a United Way board member and is involved with both the American and Wisconsin Correctional Associations. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Williams begins her new role Nov. 25, 2007. She replaces former Regional Chief Jan Cummings, who earlier this year was appointed Director of the Office of Crime Victim Services for the Wisconsin Department of Justice. ###
