INTRODUCTION
Gordon Correctional Center
is the northernmost Center of the Wisconsin Correctional Center System, and is located
approximately 2 1/2 miles southeast of the Village of Gordon on County Road "G",
in an annex of the Brule River State Forest.
The main Center building is a single
story, multi-wing, concrete block, stucco faced structure. This building houses the inmate
population, food service, laundry, canteen, indoor recreation rooms and the Administrative
Offices.
The Center has a rated
capacity of 54, but can accommodate up to 80 male inmates.
Camp Gordon, as it was first known, was
built in 1932, and used to relieve overcrowding at the Wisconsin State Prison in Waupun.
Gordon began as a forestry camp. The inmates produce much of the own food on the Camps
farm and in the gardens. They also worked in the forest and adjacent tree nursery operated
by the Wisconsin Conservation Department.
