INTRODUCTION

The McNaughton Correctional Center is located just west of the Town of Lake Tomahawk, on State Forest Road D, in Oneida County. The Center is made up of seven buildings and is located on a 60-acre parcel on Little Lake Tomahawk Lake.

The Center was originally built as a state hospital facility for the treatment of tuberculosis patients. It became a state correctional forestry camp, receiving inmates transferred from the Green Bay Reformatory in 1956. The original McNaughton State Prison Camp, located south of Lake Tomahawk off U.S. Highway 47, dated back to the 1930's.

The Center has a rated capacity of 55 inmates and an emergency capacity of 84 for adult males. Inmates at McNaughton Correctional Center have been transferred to the facility from major prisons and other centers and will soon be release to their home communities across Wisconsin. The Center also houses up to fifteen state probationers and parolees who have violated rules of supervision as an ATR or alternative to revocation of probation or parole.

PROGRAMS

All inmates are assigned to full-time work assignments supporting center operations. Two crews of 14 inmates work off-grounds daily, completing community service and state forestry projects. The Center operates a sawmill and a small production wood and cabinet shops.

On-grounds, GED/HSED classes, Cognitive Intervention Program phases 1 and 2, AODA Level 5B, chemical dependency support groups, and Circle of Recovery groups are available.

The Center places twenty to thirty inmates out on work release and public trusty assignments in local communities.
