INTRODUCTION
The McNaughton Correctional
Center is located just west of the Town of Lake Tomahawk, on State Forest Road D, in
Oneida County. The Center is made up of seven buildings
and is located on a 60-acre parcel on Little Lake Tomahawk Lake.
The Center was originally built as a state
hospital facility for the treatment of tuberculosis patients. It became a state
correctional forestry camp, receiving inmates transferred from the Green Bay Reformatory
in 1956. The original McNaughton State Prison Camp, located south of Lake Tomahawk off
U.S. Highway 47, dated back to the 1930's.
The Center has a rated capacity of 55
inmates and an emergency capacity of 84 for adult males. Inmates at McNaughton
Correctional Center have been transferred to the facility from major prisons and other
centers and will soon be release to their home communities across Wisconsin. The Center
also houses up to fifteen state probationers and parolees who have violated rules of
supervision as an ATR or alternative to revocation of probation or parole.
PROGRAMS
All inmates are assigned to full-time work
assignments supporting center operations.
Two crews of 14 inmates work off-grounds daily, completing community
service and state forestry projects. The Center operates a sawmill and a small production
wood and cabinet shops.
On-grounds, GED/HSED classes,
Cognitive Intervention Program phases 1 and 2, AODA
Level 5B, chemical
dependency support groups, and Circle of Recovery groups are available.
The Center places twenty to thirty inmates
out on work release and public trusty assignments in local communities.
