The Mission of the Milwaukee Women's Correctional Center provides a safe and secure environment offering services and opportunities to women to be educated and to learn viable skills; to work in the community; and to receive treatment in order for them to return to society in a more pro-social manner. The Mission is based on a philosophy of commitment to new ideas and productive change.

We envision the Milwaukee Women's Correctional Center to be a facility which provides incarcerated women, their families, and the community with quality services that are measurable and carefully managed. We strive to maintain a safe and well-structured environment.

The majority of the women who arrive at the Center are single mothers who have suffered some type of abuse in their lifetime. The average age is 30 years and the primary treatment need is Alcohol or Drug Abuse Treatment. Over half of the women do not have a high school education and read at the 6th to 8th grade level. The average sentence structure is two to six years.

The Center utilizes numerous treatment agencies within the city of Milwaukee. MWCC contracts with Genesis Behavioral Services for the Phoenix 5B AODA program. The Center also participates in the Milwaukee County House of Corrections Day Reporting Center. Other community agencies provide treatment in the areas of drug and alcohol abuse, sexual assault treatment, parenting domestic violence treatment; women's support group, and eating disorder groups. Inmates also have the option to participate in religious activities.

Approximately 50% of the women participate in the work release/study release program.

The Milwaukee Women's Correctional Center takes pride in their appearance, as well as their personal interactions. The employees at the Center are professional, dedicated, and are continually trying to improve themselves to better serve the inmates. All of our employees are valued; work in unison with each other and with other agencies; and are acknowledged for their commitment and skill.
